Module 5 - Mood Disorders

Purpose

This module aims to describe how mood disorders are diagnosed and treated, with reference to people with intellectual disability.

Target audience

The module provides information intended to be useful to individuals working with people with an intellectual disability, who want to increase their understanding of the knowledge and theory about people with both intellectual disability and mental health problems.

After completing this module, you should be able to: Have a understanding of the symptoms and signs of mood disorders Understand how these might present in people with intellectual disability Be aware of the issues in assessing a person with intellectual disability for mood disorders Have an understanding of the treatment approach to mood disorders Have an understanding of the adjustments that may need to be made in people with intellectual disability
