What is a Developmental Disability

Developmental disability is used as a broader term than intellectual disability as it includes a second group of people – those with autism spectrum disorder. This is not meant to indicate that the needs of people with autism spectrum disorder and people with intellectual disability are the same. Nor does it mean that mental illness in these distinct populations will present in the same way. What is important is that both of these groups tend to be supported by similar social care services (disability services, social work services)
